Keeping Cats Safe in Hot Weather

Ensure your cat has shady spots outdoors and access to cooler rooms indoors to relax in.

Shade

Keep multiple fresh, clean water sources available around the house and yard. Consider a cat water fountain.

Hydration

Brush long-haired cats frequently to prevent hot spots and knots that prevent heat dissipation.

Grooming

Restrict intense playtime or outdoor time during peak heat to prevent overexertion and dehydration.

Limit Exercise

Install a cat door or flap allowing free access to cooled indoor areas to prevent locking cats outside.

Access Indoors

Provide gel cooling pads or beds allowing cats to recline comfortably without getting too warm.

Cooling Beds

Never leave cats alone in hot vehicles which can quickly overheat.
