Protecting Pups in the Mountains

Know potential risks - weather, terrain, wild animals before hitting the trail.

Research First

Pack dog first aid, navigation & communication tools, emergency shelter supplies.

Gear Up  

Use harness & leash on steep trails. Dogs may chase wildlife off cliffs.

Avoid Falls

Some alpine plants like foxglove are toxic. Keep dog from eating unknown vegetation.

Mind the Flora   

Give ample space to mountain goats, moose & especially bear encounters to avoid conflict.  

Wildlife Wary

Extreme cold, heat or storms above tree line are harmful. Bring dog jacket if needed.

Weather Watch

Carry plenty water. Take regular breaks in shade as mountain hikes are strenuous.
